CHRISTmas

Posted by: Charity Gordon

CHRISTmas time is my favorite time of the year. Despite all the commercialism going on at that time or even our history (satan will always counterfeit everything good and there will be times we will have to make a even greater stand)......There is so much good to been seen. It is a day we remember the birth of Jesus Christ, whether it is the actual date of His birth or not it is a time we remember. It is a time that I am reminded of the best gift of all. Jesus who came to save us and give us life. The Love of God truly is moving in such a way it makes lasting impressions on people. Christmas time is a time more people are willing to receive the gospel of our Lord. Christians should reach out to other all throughout the year though this time in particular more people are willing to receive.

Another thing I love about Christmas is the family get together s, another true gift from God. I can not even express the joy I receive when surrounded by my family and my extended families. I want to cherish every moment because they are such a blessing and you never know how long we have with them. I know this is often a sad time for folks because they are remembering there lost loved ones. I know that day will one day come for me. It has in that I mourn the loss of my grandparents. So cherish I must and cherish I will throughout the year and during Christmas time when so many can get together at one time. Love it!!!

Even so CHRISTmas time is a time I do want to be sure to put more and more focus on HIM. It is easy to get carried away with other things. So I hope to add more and more traditions Christ centered. This year was the first year we made a birthday cake for Jesus. Just a little something to highlight what Christmas is about. I have wanted to make a cake for years and each year I have put it off. Until this year. We made Jesus his birthday cake and we all sang Happy Birthday to Jesus. This Christmas was a wonderful Christmas!! Was it as Christ centered as it should or I would like it to be? No. Peeling back the distractions one peel at a time in my daily life and when we celebrate His birth, and will take a bite out of the fruits of life...

All the Way Home

Today I am thinking of those who have gone before us. The song above is beautiful. I think of my grandparents and the roads they have traveled I think of the saints and friends and family and those we never new. The roads that they took?? The families who were left behind to mourn and miss having them around. Some only had a short road to travel to home. I too am thinking of those who are still traveling through. Oh Lord help us to appreciate life and living, help us to appreciate friends and family. Help us to reach out to them as well as to strangers. They all, we all have a story a road that we have traveled. Up hill down hill, twist and turns, right turns, left turns, wrong turns. Lost along the way and having to get back on the right road. These past few weeks I have heard of many people who suddenly lost a love one children and adults. Life is so precious we don't know when it will be the end of our road and for those who are near us. Lets hug are loved ones and take a walk with them in their shoes that is.

Right now I can't stop thinking about an elderly lady who lives across from us. She often alone. I always mean to visit and talk with her. I really need to visit her. Just sit with her and listen to her story. Yes I will go visit with her maybe even take notes we can learn so much from others. I think with time we have lost the story's that really mean so much...

Dear God may your words be pressed upon my heart and mind. Lord help us to pass down your word and the faith that the saints had before us may we carry that torch of faith and pass it on to our children. Help me Lord to follow the tracks you have laid before me...May the grace of God carry me all the way home.... And may we take the time to tell the story's to strengthen. Amen.

Follow the orderly road

Posted by: Charity Gordon

I so desire to have a orderly and neat home. I am ready to go down the road that will take me there. I have gotten on and off that road. Trying many different things and seems I can't stay on that road. But I am determined...I recently got a new used car and love it. I am determined not to do like the other cars...mess slowly creeping in. So far have gone a good while without letting anything creep in. So now I want to move that into the house. One room at a time. Focus is the key to keep the overwhelm out and to stay on that road. Can't take short cuts nor wait till later. Right now the focus is the Kitchen. Once I get it spotless I will focus on keeping it spotless. Once we develop a habit of keeping a clean Kitchen I will move on to the next room. Will still straighten up in other rooms and such but main focus will be room by room and one habit at a time.

I will try and remember to post again in about a month on where we are at. Would love to here what you are doing to stay on that orderly road. The ups and the downs.

Where One Pain is There is a Greater One Still

Posted by: Charity Gordon

Tuesday we headed to childrens for the boys endocrine check ups. They passed the test and both got better A1C. They have different A1C targets due to age. They both did not hit their target but getting close. I am looking to see even better next visit. So glad to have that over with. I hate Type 1 diabetes and hate that two of my precious boys have it!! I wish that we could get diabetes over with, that I could kiss it and make it better but it is here to stay (with Type 1 insulin is not produced due to destruction of the of insulin-producing beta cells of the pancreas) so we learn to do our best and keep pressing forward learning more about the disease and different ways to better manage the disease and moving forward with other things, dreams and such, despite the disease and its opsticals.

One thing I always think about when we go to their appointments at Childrens is other people that pass us who are going through much of what we are or worse. Your heart goes out to the parents and children. Its kind of like being at church and you here all the prayer request and realize that other people are hurting too. Stepping outside of yourself and realize where one pain is there is a greater one still.

We are all on a roller coaster ride some more intense than others. And God is there for all big or small. Let us be sure to let God in for the ride and with him we can step outside ourselves and feel the pain of another and reach out in some way.

Today stepping outside of myself and my family and sharing about another, one whom a friend shared about on Facebook....Please take the time to pray for Bonnie and her family. Click on A Greater pain still if you would like to donate to her fundraiser.

A Greater Pain Still

"What is more I consider everything a loss compared to the surpassing greatness of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord for whose sake I have lost all things not that I have already attained this, or have been made perfect but I press on to take hold of that which Christ Jesus took hold of me."

Please step outside of yourself and listen to Bonnies Story.

Endocrine Visit...

Posted by: Charity Gordon

Dreading tomorrow....What is tomorrow?? The exciting endocrinologist visit for my boys. Every three months we get to go, glad to be able to because it is important and helpful to their health none the less not something I get to excited about. Many of us parents with kids with diabetes don't get to excited about the visit. I am sure this is also true for the diabetics themselves. I heard one mom describe it as going to the principals office when you were a kid. I guess we get a since of failure because we just can't get it 100% right know matter how hard we try. It is very frustrating to not be able have there BG's at a perfect number at all times no matter how well we do things. Yes we CAN take better control but never complete control. Taking better control and accepting that we can't get complete control are both very difficult!! I have two children that have type 1 diabetes that makes for double the difficult. Then add that they are toddler and a teenager well, more difficult. I think another thing about the visit is just like a reminder of the reality of the disease and how it plays a heavy weight roll in our lives. We have are routines and BG checks and insulin shots are just apart of our daily lives. That just the way it is but we really don't put much thought about the disease if we did I think it would make the task much harder because we'd be falling apart while we did the things we needed to do. The visit reminds us of the Disease because that is the only focus. I think it also brings back memories for me when they were first diagnosed and all those feelings. Oh and the Test......the A1C is always like waiting to find out if you passed the test. UGH...Tomorrow I am hoping for better A1C for them both.

Love, love my kid's and have a great desire for us all to learn and grow in such a way that we WILL be able to better manage. This will always be an on going process even for the doctors. With new tech. and new findings about the disease. So much to learn in some many areas...1 step at a time...Will always stay hopeful...

Galatians 5:6 (King James Version)

6For in Jesus Christ neither circumcision availeth any thing, nor uncircumcision; but faith which worketh by love.

To my brothers and sisters in Christ

A parable...

A young lady who was given no more than a week to live lay in bed with illness waiting for her time. She never heard or read scripture and new not God. Her father the king called for the preachers, teachers and all those who walk with God. For he was concerned for her after life. The king told 2 men and 1 woman to share one verse in the bible and to share about its meaning to his daughter.

The first man was good about keeping the sabbath so the verse he shared was as follows

Deuteronomy 5:12 (New Living Translation)
12 “Observe the Sabbath day by keeping it holy, as the Lord your God has commanded you.

Then the man proceeded to explain what the sabbath was and the evils of not keeping it.

The second man had prior engagement with some men who some what walked with God but did not walk as the man walk, he was to speak to them the correct way to walk. So this man did not come to talk with the girl. He said he would be glad to the next morning though.

The woman spent much time in prayer asking her heavenly Father to give her the message that the young lady needed at this time in her short life.

She went to the young lady and spent much time with her. She ask her questions about her life growing up. The elder lady spent much time just listening and getting to know the young lady. The elder lady also shared about her own life. The young lady listened to the elder for the elder truly and clearly cared for her well being.

Durning her stay she opened up the Holy Bible and read

John 3:16 (NIV)

16 For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life

She shared with the young lady the life of Jesus. The birth, death and what he did on the the cross for our sins and the resurrection. When she was through she began to pray with and for the young lady and asking for the holy spirit to move within the young ladies heart. Then she gave her the bible and said now get to know God and His love for you. Then she left. The very next morning the young lady went on to be with the Lord.

What scripture, what would you share?? Remember today could be the last for those who pass you by. What will you spend most of your time sharing and with whom??

May we not only live as though it is our last but live for others as though it is their last.

The King of Glory

Psalm 24
The King of Glory
A Psalm of David.

24:1 The earth is the Lord's and the fullness thereof, [1]
the world and those who dwell therein,
2 for he has founded it upon the seas
and established it upon the rivers.

3 Who shall ascend the hill of the Lord?
And who shall stand in his holy place?
4 He who has clean hands and a pure heart,
who does not lift up his soul to what is false
and does not swear deceitfully.
5 He will receive blessing from the Lord
and righteousness from the God of his salvation.
6 Such is the generation of those who seek him,
who seek the face of the God of Jacob. [2] Selah

7 Lift up your heads, O gates!
And be lifted up, O ancient doors,
that the King of glory may come in.
8 Who is this King of glory?
The Lord, strong and mighty,
the Lord, mighty in battle!
9 Lift up your heads, O gates!
And lift them up, O ancient doors,
that the King of glory may come in.
10 Who is this King of glory?
The Lord of hosts,
he is the King of glory! Selah

Crossroads

Posted by: Charity Gordon

The song above brings back many memories.....When I here many of Don Mclean's songs I think of my Dad. In his study listening to music and reading books.... I am taken back to the time after my Mom left my Dad and visiting my Dad and brothers during the summer or Christmas. Both joy and sorrow penetrates me as I listen. Good thoughts of my Dad and Gods goodness in him. And then the pain of brokenness.

Recent visit from my Dad brought me back to the days back when....the ups and the downs...To now. My relationship with my Dad the back and forth blame of the divorce going on within me through the years. Then our beliefs and different realizations. It is OK if I don't see everything in the manner that he sees them. It doesn't make him or I any worse of a person. We all (children of God) have our journeys that we travel different roads take us different places and God can actually be guiding us different direction but yet together with a common goal. My Dad is such a beautiful person, As an adult it use to pain me if I found that I viewed things different or if he found he viewed something differn't than I. I am learning to let go of that and continue to travel as well as continue to learn from him in so many ways. Also learning to listen to God soft voice in where he would have me go on this journey we call life with my children as a mother and wife as well as child of God. Yes the voice is soft many things of this world crowds it out....Where Lord would you have me go today??

Today I feel as though I am in a Crossroads. Choices, which way to go?? Do I continue to home school my children or not. Where do I go with carrier and home life?? What is the best for my children?? What should I do?? Can I do it?? I believe God is putting a lot of things in my life to help show me the way as well as give me the strength. Much uncertainty right now, taking one step at a time. One goal for sure for me right now is to get my house in order, me in order (seek God in all things) and my household. Get organized, de-clutter, get in better routines and help the children do the same. By this summer I intend to have much of that accomplished...And maybe by then or before then I will know what road to take on different things. Hope you will join me as I travel and may we travel together where ever that road takes me or you.

Potty Training,Yipee

Posted by: Charity Gordon

When my little man was much younger I introduce the potty to him I wasn't in a hurry since he wasn't that old. He was taking to it pretty well but then as life happened I stopped encouraging it and he was on the diaper 24/7. His 3rd birthday just recently came around. That is what I decided to wait on since we had issue about his health to focus on. Anyway here we are at potty training. He was not to happy about the whole idea and I new this was going to be tough, Potty training Yipee :) He did finally give it a try and said the potty is scary. LOL So I decided to get him a new special potty for him to use. He gave that a try and said it won't work, nothing happened LOL.

Now my creative juices started flowing I got to get this guy excited about the potty he wasn't wanting to try anymore. Since he loves cars I told him he would get cars if he would go potty. He was really excited about that so he kept giving it a try and guess what it worked, tinkles and poo, poo's!! Now it was a tiny bit and he would sit and get back up and sit again. Then I ran into a promblem I can't possible give him a car every time. So now I give him tickets 1 when he trys 2 when he goes tinkle and 3 when he poo poo's. Then he trades in so many ticket for a toy car. We are on our way to a well trained pottier :) Yippee, Happy dance,Happy dance!!

Lets speak the word and let God breath the word

Posted by: Charity Gordon

Wow how much more could we reach others with the gospel if we Christians stop pointing fingers at each other and start pointing at truth only, the light our savior Jesus Christ? To just allow the Love of Christ move us and through us. The rest would follow the deeper things would be revealed in Gods time by the Holy Spirit. Lets speak the word and let God breath the word!! Let us unite with all our differences by the love of Christ for the love of Christ and reach the nations even if only by our daily walk. We are all on a journey let us journey together even if we are at different place in our walk. United we stand other wise we fall.........May we bring glory to God as we walk in His Love Amen.

Endo Checkup

Posted by: Charity Gordon

Today we took our 16 yr old and 2 yr old boys to their endocrine check up. The little man was in such a good mood. I thought after Monday he may not want to go to the doctor. Since lately the insulin shots have been something he has tried to avoid all the more. I think he is beginning to wonder hey why am I going with this, Protest! Anyway I have been asking my soon to be 3 year old if he would like to use a pump like his big brother? He seemed excited about that. I told him we would talk to the doctor about it. Maybe that brought some excitement about the Dr. visit. He did mention the pump a couple of times. I did mention it to the doctor and will soon be talking to the diabetes educators. Anyway he read books while we were waiting and really didn't complain the whole visit. Check up went OK. Their A1C diffidently need some work. My teenager as well as I really need to stay on top of the BG checks really need to do that more often. More changes will need to be made. My teenager had some blood work done to keep track of his Addisons disease and Hashimotos and make sure he is getting the right dosages as well as watch for any other things that might pop up. I did ask the doc if she could see if results from labs in the GI department came back yet. She said they did but since she didn't specialize as GI she wouldn't know what it all meant. She did say that both boys result showed allergens or something. Not sure what that means. So we still wait for results to see if they have celiac disease.

Waiting For Results

Posted by: Charity Gordon

Monday 2 of my boys 16 year old and soon to be 3 yr old, had biopsy done of their small intestine to see if they have celiac disease. They went through the mouth and down the throat took pictures and took 6 pieces of the intestines. Its considered a day surgery. The procedures for both of them went very well. No complications. At Children Medical center in Plano they were very nice and took well care of them. They explained to my 16 year old all that they were going to do and made sure he felt comfortable. They did all they could do to prepare my toddler and help him not be afraid. They even gave his Mickey somethings they would do to him while he was awake. Since he has a hard time parting from me they allowed me to go with him and stay with him until he fell asleep. I was glad my husband was able to be there so he was able to stay with my 16 year old while getting IV while I was with little man. They finished with him pretty quick. While they were trying to put an IV in my 16 year old before they were even done with that they were done with my little man. They had to give my 16 year old cortisone through IV because he also has Addisons disease. So when are adrenaline is pumping extra during surgery his is not so he has to have something extra to replace that. He take cortef pills at home and needed it through the IV for the procedure. Both boys also have T1 diabetes so they had to keep close watch of their BG. They also gave them both IV to keep fluids in them to make sure they did not get dehydrated. I held my little guy when he woke up and waited for his brother to come in. They both had water and Popsicle to get fluids in them and help with sore throat. After they saw that they were able to keep fluids in them without getting sick we were able to go home. Oh I forgot right after the procedure was done with each of them the doctor showed us some pictures that he took of the small intestine. There was three or four pictures of the intestine taken from each child. My little man had one picture that appeared to have some damaged tissue and possible ulcer. Ulcers are sometimes due to Chron's disease. My 16 year olds look really damaged and seemed to have odd color but the color could be due to his meds that he has to take. The doctor said you really can't tell from the picture to be sure we would need to wait for the results from the lab. The pictures at time can be hard to really tell. Like what appears to be ulcer may not. He said that we would get results as late as a week but could get them before then. He said typically you get results before then. It is Wednesday and we continue to wait........we pray that they do not have an added thing to their already full plate. My 16 year old has three autoimmune diseases (Addisons disease, Type 1 diabetes and hashimoto's disease already and my toddler has Type 1 diabetes.) Oh how I love my children and wish I could carry their burdens!!!!

Here is a link about celiac and the procedures if you would like to learn more about celiac disease http://www.csaceliacs.org/celiac_diagnosis.php

I will post about the results when I get them..........Thanks for stopping by

I See the Light, the New Day is Coming

Using Our Backbone

Posted by: Charity Gordon

On this road we travel I am back to, “You know I have a back bone I need to use it.” So here is the thing we need not use our back bone with unhealthy anger or bitterness. A firm but polite No or Yes. We are told in scriptures to let are No be No and our Yes be Yes. This not only gets me thinking about, um like when I tell my child No I need to keep it a No not turn around and say well OK. This just brings about confusion , a No is no longer a no but a sought after yes. I also see this true to what is on our heart….speak it! When we are out and about let us not let fear keep us from speaking up. At home if I need something done speak it, don’t stuff it down and only let it out when I'm at my wits end. When I say I am going to do something I need to do it as well. My journey will be learning how to speak those words effectively and in the right manner. Learning to keep my word and use my words. So having a back bone can take us right to communication, learning to communicate as well as our actions. Are you using your back bone and are you using it correctly? Please come again as I have future post about communication and using our back bones correctly as to where we don’t end up with back trouble. If anything learn from our mistakes.

Cheerleader

Do I tell my teen age daughter what a good job she is doing? Do I find every opportunity to catch those right choices? Not nearly enough so, just the other day I decided to tell my daughter what a hard worker she was and such an eager person to learn about everything and anything. I am so proud of you I said!! She told me thank you sometimes that is all I need to here, with a big smile. So my goals is to make sure that every day I hand her lots of positive words for it is from those words people are given a boost to keep running. When one is running a race do we not cheer them on, you can do it, you’re doing great, keep going!! From this day forth I pledge to be my family’s cheerleader as we travel this road we are living…..

Soon after I wrote this a FB friend shared this video Facing the Giants……..awesome!! Lets cheer our family's on like that....

And don't forget God too is cheering you on.....Yes life is tough but God is right by your side and with Him you can make it!!

It takes 21 days to form a habit.

You provide a Goal and Desire, and we'll send you a customized daily email asking how you did.
Simply click "yes" or "no" daily.
Succeed for 21 days, and the new action will be easier than ever.

God Is Our Refuge and Strength

Psalm 46

God Is Our Fortress

To the choirmaster. Of the Sons of Korah. According to Alamoth. [7] A Song.

46:1 God is our refuge and strength,
a very present [8] help in trouble.
2 Therefore we will not fear though the earth gives way,
though the mountains be moved into the heart of the sea,
3 though its waters roar and foam,
though the mountains tremble at its swelling. Selah

4 There is a river whose streams make glad the city of God,
the holy habitation of the Most High.
5 God is in the midst of her; she shall not be moved;
God will help her when morning dawns.
6 The nations rage, the kingdoms totter;
he utters his voice, the earth melts.
7 The Lord of hosts is with us;
the God of Jacob is our fortress. Selah

8 Come, behold the works of the Lord,
how he has brought desolations on the earth.
9 He makes wars cease to the end of the earth;
he breaks the bow and shatters the spear;
he burns the chariots with fire.
10 “Be still, and know that I am God.
I will be exalted among the nations,
I will be exalted in the earth!”
11 The Lord of hosts is with us;
the God of Jacob is our fortress. Selah

Small intestinal biopsy-Celiac Disease

Posted by: Charity Gordon

Yesterday We took my 15 year old to GI Dr. To discuss my sons possibilities of having celiac disease, "We won't know for sure, he says without the biopsy " Since my son has 3 other autoimmune diseases he has a even greater likelihood. So both my 2 year old (you can learn about 2yr olds appointment in earlier post) and 15 year old are scheduled for a small intestinal biopsy in August.

Small intestinal biopsy

"Small intestinal biopsy is considered the most accurate test for celiac disease. Small intestinal biopsies can be obtained by performing an esophagogastroduodenoscopy (EGD). During an EGD, the doctor inserts a long, flexible viewing endoscope through the mouth and into the duodenum. A long, flexible biopsy instrument then can be passed through a small channel in the endoscope to obtain samples of the intestinal lining of the duodenum. Multiple samples usually are obtained to increase the accuracy of diagnosis. A pathologist then can examine the biopsies (under a microscope) for loss of villi and other characteristics of celiac disease such as increased numbers of lymphocytes.

Small intestinal biopsy does however, have some limitations. For example, acute viral gastroenteritis and allergy to cow's milk or soy protein can cause abnormal small intestinal biopsies that are indistinguishable from celiac disease. However, acute viral gastroenteritis is not easily confused with celiac disease because of the difference in the acuteness of symptoms. (Acute viral gastroenteritis has a sudden onset of symptoms and last only a few days.) It is however, easier to confuse cow's milk and soy protein allergies with celiac disease, but these allergic conditions are rare and primarily occur in young children. Despite these limitations, small intestinal biopsies are recommended even for individuals who have abnormal antibody tests for celiac disease. (See discussion that follows.)"

I have mixed feelings about the whole procedure the all natural side of me says don't get the biopsy and give the diet a try without the biopsy. Then we would never "Know" and would we really stick to such a strict diet without "knowing"? I don't know I go back and forth for so many reasons. The side that says yes do have the procedure done is obviously weighing in since appointment has been made. So many professionals are saying this is the way to go. And I do trust their doctor. I am putting this in the doctors hands and more importantly Gods hands.

Celiac Disease and Questions

Posted by: Charity Gordon in

This coming Thursday we have another GI appointment coming up, this time for my 15 yr old. We will also be making plans for my 2 yr old on the biopsy to find if he has celiac disease. One question that has been running through my head is do we really need to have it done? Can't we just cut out the gluten now and see what happens? At first suspicion of possible celiac disease why not cut out gluten? Cutting out gluten can give false reading's on test. So this is why I have not cut it out before. Now my question is now that I know he is at high risk should i go ahead with the biopsy or just cut out the gluten? The link below has help me with some of my question though I still plan to have questions ready for doctor on Thursday. Thanks for stopping by Simply Living, rroadwetravel ....

Confirming a Diagnosis of Celiac Disease

Q.

As a celiac, I often encounter people who have read or heard of celiac disease, cut out gluten and felt better. Then they have diagnosed themselves as celiacs. My understanding is that anyone who thinks they are celiac should NOT go on a gluten free diet, since it interferes with correct diagnosis. Could you comment on this trend?
Kathleen in Ottawa

A.

Dr. Crowe responds: Monica, you ask a very relevant question, since the trend of going gluten-free before celiac disease is confirmed is becoming more and more common. The simple answer to your question is no, there is no one test that can confirm celiac disease once you have been on a gluten-free diet for a long period of time. Kathleen in Ottawa (my hometown) aptly labeled this as a “trend,” and she is also correct in pointing out that eliminating gluten before a diagnosis is made can indeed interfere with making a proper diagnosis of celiac disease.

Going on a gluten-free diet for many months, and particularly for a year or more, can lead to the most commonly used diagnostic tests for celiac disease to no longer being helpful. Even intestinal biopsies can go back to a normal or near-normal appearance if you have been gluten-free for a long time. Without an intestinal biopsy that shows the abnormalities of celiac disease, you cannot be diagnosed with celiac disease. (I know I have said this already but it is a key point to hammer home.)

Even if you feel better on a gluten-free diet, this does not mean you have celiac disease. One study showed that only 36 percent of patients who felt better on a gluten-free diet actually had celiac disease. Often, feeling better without gluten in your diet is transient, and then you are left not knowing the true cause of your problem.

Another reason for not going on a gluten-free diet without a true diagnosis of celiac disease is that it may encourage family members to be screened for the disease, even though you may not really have it. As Lara Field, pediatric dietitian specializing in celiac disease at the University of Chicago (http://www.feedkids.com) points out, going gluten-free can also lead to certain nutritional deficiencies, so you should be certain of the diagnosis before committing you — and perhaps your entire family — to this diet. Studies in the United States, Canada and the U.K. also show that the cost of eating gluten-free products is two to three times greater than comparable gluten-containing products. So taking on this extra expense without being certain such treatment is necessary may not be a wise financial decision.

Of course, if a diagnosis of celiac disease is confirmed, treatment with a gluten-free diet is mandatory. In that case, I encourage working with a knowledgeable dietitian/nutritionist to help you in your quest to eat a balanced and nutritious gluten-free diet.

Poem of Your Life

I started to thinking about going a different direction with this blog. At one point I wanted to give healthful advice. I look back on some of my post and find that I don't even always take my own advice. I have changed the title from Simply Healthful Steps to Simply Living rroadwetravel. Life can be hard at times and unexpected turns come about. You come to a stop sign and have to go either left or right. Storm come where you find you have no choice but slow down or maybe even pull over and sit for a while then gather up enough courage to get back on the road once the storm calms. Here I want to take you along on our journey in hopes that I may be encouragement to you as you continue in your journey. May we see the poem of our life through the ups and the downs, the joys and the sorrows.

"We are notes of a song of a cores of faith..."

This is a beautiful song may we be encouraged to sing with our days.....

Psalm 24:1-10

Selah

Give Thanks to the Lord

Psalm 138

Give Thanks to the Lord

Of David.

138:1 I give you thanks, O Lord, with my whole heart;
before the gods I sing your praise;
2 I bow down toward your holy temple
and give thanks to your name for your steadfast love and your faithfulness,
for you have exalted above all things
your name and your word. [3]
3 On the day I called, you answered me;
my strength of soul you increased. [4]

4 All the kings of the earth shall give you thanks, O Lord,
for they have heard the words of your mouth,
5 and they shall sing of the ways of the Lord,
for great is the glory of the Lord.
6 For though the Lord is high, he regards the lowly,
but the haughty he knows from afar.

7 Though I walk in the midst of trouble,
you preserve my life;
you stretch out your hand against the wrath of my enemies,
and your right hand delivers me.
8 The Lord will fulfill his purpose for me;
your steadfast love, O Lord, endures forever.
Do not forsake the work of your hands.

The Big Question

Posted by: Charity Gordon

The Big question right now is, does my 2yr old have celiac disease? He has T1 D and this has been my question for quit some time. First lab results did not show the possibilities. Just a few months ago when my DS went to endo appointment the doc said she wanted to do a newer and better test to see if there were chances he had celiac. Blood work does not diagnose just helps with on seeing the chances. Lab results came back and shows him to be at high risk. So he has an appointment to see a GI doctor.

My sons symptoms have been having lots of BM's some pasty or runny. Very strong odor some yellowish color some green and or dark. He has sick bouts wear he is very irritable and has fatigue. During this time he has little to no BM's and acts like he has discomfort and says his tummy hurts. As I right he is sleeping and has not felt well on and off. Also during this time he usually does not know what he wants to eat. Everything does not sound good to him. I am anxious to see if it is celiac that is causing all of this.

Some of you maybe asking, what is celiac disease?

Celiac disease is an inherited, autoimmune disease in which the lining of the small intestine is damaged from eating gluten and other proteins found in wheat, barley, rye, and possibly oats.

Naturally Healthy Family

Posted by: Charity Gordon in

I am taking a course on Natural Family Health. With all that life has thrown at us I had stopped for a while. I now have picked back up on it. This is an awesome course!!! If you are wanting to learn more about Whole health consider http://www.naturallyhealthy.org/ and get your course from Shonda Parker or buy some of her books which it on sale by the way. She brings balance in Natural Health she is not extreme on one end or the other. You learn about whole health, body spirit and mind. Health is not spoken a part from God. In fact in her course she recognizes God, father, son and holy spirit as our true source of health. You will learn about the best foods to eat and what they do for your body and so much more so go ahead and check out the link above. Shonda is an absolute blessing!!!

My desire is to learn all I can about healthy living so that I may help strengthen my family's immune system and put into practice what I learn.

As we know there are foods that we can eat and foods that we don't eat (and much to learn about them) that can make us ill.We also need to be careful as to what we feed our souls there are things like bitterness, anger and unforgivness that can make us ill. Just yesterday on the course I was reading about bitterness. Never really thought of myself as being bitter. Anytime someone hurts us even the littlest things that may get to us can turn into bitterness if we don't let it go. Bitterness only hurt us not the people who may have offended us. Pay back doesn't help because the bitterness stays with us and destroys us. I have learned that continually thinking about things that one does or doesn't do only causes bitterness and it is my problem so I must ask for forgiveness and just let it go. The bitterness was starting to get in the way of me moving forward. Care to join me as we let go and walk the simply healthful steps on this journey we call life.

Whoever loves his brother abides in the light

1 John 2:7-17
The New Commandment
7 Beloved, I am writing you no new commandment, but an old commandment that you had from the beginning. The old commandment is the word that you have heard. 8 At the same time, it is a new commandment that I am writing to you, which is true in him and in you, because [8] the darkness is passing away and the true light is already shining. 9 Whoever says he is in the light and hates his brother is still in darkness. 10 Whoever loves his brother abides in the light, and in him [9] there is no cause for stumbling. 11 But whoever hates his brother is in the darkness and walks in the darkness, and does not know where he is going, because the darkness has blinded his eyes.

12 I am writing to you, little children,
because your sins are forgiven for his name's sake.
13 I am writing to you, fathers,
because you know him who is from the beginning.
I am writing to you, young men,
because you have overcome the evil one.
I write to you, children,
because you know the Father.
14 I write to you, fathers,
because you know him who is from the beginning.
I write to you, young men,
because you are strong,
and the word of God abides in you,
and you have overcome the evil one.

Do Not Love the World
15 Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. 16 For all that is in the world—the desires of the flesh and the desires of the eyes and pride in possessions—is not from the Father but is from the world. 17 And the world is passing away along with its desires, but whoever does the will of God abides forever.

Psalm 21:1-7

The King Rejoices in the Lord's Strength
To the choirmaster. A Psalm of David.

21:1 O Lord, in your strength the king rejoices,
and in your salvation how greatly he exults!
2 You have given him his heart's desire
and have not withheld the request of his lips. Selah
3 For you meet him with rich blessings;
you set a crown of fine gold upon his head.
4 He asked life of you; you gave it to him,
length of days forever and ever.
5 His glory is great through your salvation;
splendor and majesty you bestow on him.
6 For you make him most blessed forever; [1]
you make him glad with the joy of your presence.
7 For the king trusts in the Lord,
and through the steadfast love of the Most High he shall not be moved.

Trying Something New

Posted by: Charity Gordon

In taking steps to healthier living and save money to I decided to join a local co-op group. I have also in the past joined a CSA and we did work share. This year it will be the co-op, growing veggies in our yard, farmers market and volunteer work when we can at a near by farm and CSA. Also I plan to go to pick your own farms to get fruit and such.

When getting your produce in this way you don't always know what you are going to get so instead of putting together a menu plan before you do the shopping i will be trying something new and do this after i get all the goods. Friday's will be my shopping for goods day. My co-op pick up is every other Friday so i will be doing any grocery shopping that needs to be done on this day as well. Today I'm hopeful i have enough for two weeks. Tonight i will put together a 2 week menu plan. I will try and share that with you on Monday.

Tonight we will have breakfast for dinner, eggs, hash browns and asparagus.
For lunch we had left over stuff and biscuits for breakfast.

Keeping my fingers crossed that we won't need to head back to grocery store until Friday wk two. Oh and i am finally using coupons for things like shampoo and such in my trying to save money venture. I hear a future post coming, "saving money venture" :)

It has a long and illustrious history in America but yet the majority of us do not count it amongst our favorite foods. When you look at the health benefits we really should. There's nothing like a good portion of tasty, juicy blueberries to treat our taste buds and help our bodies to stay as healthy as possible."

Room by Room

This years theme has been all about bringing a friend along on your journey towards healthy living. Walking or running with a friend or family member, bible studies with friends ideas from the world wide web for family living and house cleaning, healthy eating etc.

Today i ask do you find yourself way behind on your house chores and projects? Have u tried everything under the sun to try and get caught up but still find yourself behind? Many things can cause us to get behind a week down with the flu can take weeks or even months to get caught back up. Then some one else goes and catches the flu with in the family and you find your self in a hole you can't seem to get out. I know that many find there self in this position or there would not be so many books and video's and websites out there on getting organized in the home. So you are not alone many many share your frustrations. You can pull out but instead of trying to pull yourself out how about asking a friend or family member for help. This may mean you have to swallow your pride but it will be well worth it in the end. I am sure they could also use your help in a some area you can offer to help them as well.

Ask someone to work on at least one room with you. Having a quick since of accomplishment encourages you to keep going. And also helps you to get going on a routine and really put those organized home books to use. My mother in law is awesome she is always willing to help out in anyway she can and it is all out of love for her family. She would drop every thing to help a family member. She has always been there for us. When my children were diagnosed with diabetes and had to be hospitalized, when one of my sons was diagnosed with Addison's Disease and had to be hospitalized while i stayed there with them my mother in law was there for the rest of the kids at home. I could go on and on.

Maybe you can ask a friend to help you decorate a room or what ever project you have been wanting to do. It will be more fun be finished more quickly and you mix some of your creativity with theirs. My mother and i are working on a room for my daughter painting it and giving it a whole new make over. I am so glad i ask my mom to help it would not have turned out the way it is i am really liking some of her idea's and so glad to use those idea's and i know my daughter will love it!! We have it painted and will be putting a Asian theme to it. I will post before and after pictures soon.

OK so did you think of a room or project and a person you'd like to join you? Where could they use your help ask them where they would like your help and that you would like to return the favor. I'm thinking my family i will help my mother in law with yard work. Her yard is always so beautiful she works hard to keep it up. I'm thinking she needs to sit back one weekend while we do the work 6 of us could get a lot done and give her a brake. And lets see my mom i think i remember her talking about painting another room in her house think i will offer to help. Bringing a friend brings encouragement, a since of accomplishment as well as enjoyment so go ahead bring a friend room by room you will be glad you did!!
