What we are starting to do with my 4 year old is learning with Sesame Street. Monday on Netflix he watches Sesame Street. Then the rest of the week will work on the letters and shapes that was shared on Sesame street. For instance today on Sesame Street he learned the letter J so all week we will work on the letter J...Watch videos, color and write the letter J. We will do the same with colors and shapes etc.

I read on homeschool website or blog the A to Z of Why I homeschool. I forgot where...so sorry I can't give you a link. Though I thought I'd give it ago.

A. Because I am already a teacher for my children, a principal and a nurse why not go full time

B. Why not they are my children

C. Having two children with chronic illnesses, no worries of getting behind in school.

D. Don't have to take time in my busy schedule to explain why my child is sick (when my kids are sick they are needing me not me on the phone giving explanations) I already know

E. At home it is all about my kids learning not about competition, high scores, tests, or money.

F. History from the Bible can be included

G. Peer pressure is out

H. Bulling is out

I. With home school the sky is the limit to learning there are endless possibility's

J. Can focus on each individuals strengths

K. Social skills are strengthened when you subtract the peer pressure, bulling and add love and encouragement this is possible at home

L. With home school groups, church and sports the social activities are endless (socializing is NOT and issue)

M. Can go what ever pace needed for each individual (can graduate early)

N. Can use different learning tools and styles to fit each individual.

O. LOts of support out there. The number of people home schooling are growing each year. Lots of help and support for the children and parents.

P. We all learn together

Q. Can go to lots of field trips

R. Vacation break any time of the year to fit our needs

S. Can give my children better lunch

T. My children can check their BG anytime anywhere no need ask to leave and go to the nurse

U. I become more aware of my childrens strengths and weaknesses when it comes to learning when taught at home

V. "School" can go with you anywhere out of town on family visits. In a car in a dentist office. If you so choose it one moment home school another mobile school. Hey if we really wanted we could call it mobile school all the time after all it is. Can take school outside if ya want :)

W. Home school and our local homeschool group has actually brought us to socialize more....hows that for a shocker ha :)

X. Work actually gets done faster because you don't have to wait for bells to ring or other students to finish

Y. There is always room for improvement

Z. When you school at home you never miss a day because you are already there Ha :) There is lots of flexibility so if your child is sick you can put on a learning video on or sometimes they feel better parts of the day so you just can do work on a different part of the day. Doctors visits work around them. You don't have to miss a day. Snow day if you so choose still can get the work done.

Well I could just keep on going...but I am at z so stopping :)

School time is just around the corner and I am bound and determined to have at least a little bit better school year than last year. Planning a little bit each day. Getting ready ahead of time and I am actually excited about this year!! My littlest guy will begin pre-K, I think this age is fun to teach. Also thinking about actually putting together a "school room" we will see if I can pull that off or if I really want to do those little ideas floating in my head. I will have a preschooler, a 5th grader a 10th grader and a 12th grader. Lots to do to get everything ready and in place. Lots to choose from for each one of them. Anyway I thought I would share a few links with you. For those of you who also homeschool.

Lil Orphan Kitty






This kitty has kept us so very busy! It is like having a newborn baby in the house. Feeding every 2 to 3 hours. Then we seriously burp it and you must clean Kitty. We do this with a warm wipe to clean it to try and mimic the mommy. We hold it a bit to help the little kitty sleep then put it in the basket until next feeding or the kitty wakes up.




Here is Kitty with its big belly and one eye open. An eye opened at 8 days old. We now feed kitty evaporated goats milk. I have read you can feed this to newborn kitties and I have read you shouldn't. So if you wind up like us with a kitty that must be fed research and decide for yourself. I am going with goats milk to be light on its tummy. The little one didn't make a (pardon my french :)poop for 5 days. So switch from formula to goats milk. I also went to the pet store and bought a gel that helps with hairballs it is also suppose to help them go as well. It has a mixture of oils like mineral oil and has flavoring. So far it has helped. He is going...hurray!! Speaking of going...since this is a science project I must tell you all the icky details. In this lovely adventure we have learned while cleaning it you must clean around certain areas to help stimulate the kitty and make it go. They do not go on their own. Though they won't need help in that department for long...thank goodness!!




Here is kitty with both eyes opened. It was 11 days before both eyes completely opened. Next change we are waiting for is when its little ears pop up and it looks like a regular ole kitty :) This happens in about 2 weeks. We are almost there...can't wait for those ears to pop up :)



Speaking of kitties ears, my daughters noticed that when you feed the kittie its ears wiggle.... too funny :)

Lil Orphan kitty ~Our Science Project





We are learning about caring for an orphan kitty. First let me explain how little kitty became an orphan. Kitty's momma gave birth to 4 kittens at an elderly ladies house across the street from us. The momma is actually our outside kitty though it has two homes. Mommy kitty goes back and forth across the street. The elderly lady also feeds other cats in neighborhood. That comes to her house and sometimes lets them come in. Anyway Momma kitty had her kittens in my neighbors house. We noticed that momma kitty no longer had a big tummy so we went to see if she had them at our neighbors and sure enough she did. We saw all four of them a light gray kitten, dark gray, gray and white and a black one. All for were handled. We left and the next day she came to me and said she ate her kitten!! She said she saw one in her mouth and another disappeared. She didn't know if momma got the other or one of other cats. There were only two left one dark gray and one black. We didn't know what to do. I thought I would take one home and feed it and she feed the other. We didn't know what the best thing to do for it. I went and got kitten formula and bottles. I tried to feed them but they wouldn't eat. I was afraid they wouldn't eat and they would die. We decided to let kittens stay with Mom and my neighbor would keep a watch on them. The next day we find that the gray one was killed then was gone. So we was left with one. So I took it home and we have been caring for it since. I never heard of a situation like this but here we are...




So the kids science project is born :) We are Learning how much formula to give the kitten

Lil is needing 32 cc a day and is to be fed around six times a day.

Today my 10 year old will document how to care for a newborn kitten she will continue to help with caring for the kitten as well as my 14 year old daughter.

So far we have learned that mommy cats not only lick them to clean them but they too do this to stimulate them. Help them use the rest room. They do not go on their own at this age.

lil orphan kitty has been eating good out of the bottle. Though I am afraid that it may have been a bit over fed. lil is urinating fine though I have not seen a bowl movement so kind of concerned about that. Today we will go on a field trip to the pet shop to find something to help lil go. My 10 year old does not like when we talk of this subject but it is an important one. We learn the health of the kitty when we take note of these things. If not urinating this would mean she was dehydrated and not eating well. We know that our lil is eating enough and is strong. Tummy is rounded so may be bloated due to too much eating and no bowl movements.

Another thing we have learned is bottle fed kittens need to be burped after feedings as well! Much like a newborn baby.

Eyes open in about 7 days and ears stick up in about 2 weeks. We have had kittens before but never like this. So it is a big project and lots of new things to learn. My 14 year old is growing very fond of lil she does around two to three feedings and I do the rest another 3 to 4 feedings. She is thinking of names and even found a song for kitty. I think kitty is a girl looks that way now but when they get older sometime you realize you are wrong. So I am not saying for sure yet. Here is the song my daughter has dedicated to kitty....We have already grown very fond of kitty.

Friday will be the day we show and tell what is going on NR School House. Last week and this week my girls have been working on learning all the names of the presidents in the order that they were in office. Today they will finish them all and should have them all memorized. They only lack a few of knowing all of them. My 14 year old is memorizing the full names and my 10 year old is memorizing last names with a song. We will be learning about each president too. So when we go through all presidents she will learn the full names. Anyway here is the video that has helped my 10 old learn the presidents.




There are other presidents songs but I like this one because it is sung slower and has the lyrics. My daughter felt she was to old for this one but it really made it easier to learn. We hope to teach the 3 year old next!

NR School House........


I noticed that when my 10 year old does her math she was counting her fingers to multiply. So our focus is to review the multiplications. I want her to know all answers without even having to think. So we are going over multiplication over and over getting to where she can say them quickly. One of the advantages of home school is that you can keep at something until you really learn it before moving on to the next thing. Or we can go back if we need to. She is also working on her states right now working on the 50 states in the U.S.A. I don't want her to grow up not having any direction or knowledge of our country and where each state is. Learn the whole world and spend as much time on it as we like. Endless learning with awesome focus!!

I have been printing out History sheet for my 14 year old daughter and she has some math and English workbooks. Every subject and some right in front of her in the world wide web as well. She loves to learn so she is always reading and learning everything under the sun. We will soon be getting her a software that I will share about soon as well. That would be great for grading and stuff that I am not well rehearsed on :)

With some time of wavering I am finally at a point where I am certain this is a place that my family should be. I am excited about all the possibilities for my children so many avenues to grow and learn right at our finger tips. I am embracing this time of our school house and am eager to grow and learn myself as well. Home School... learning and growing...what an advantage!!!
